Historical Marker 592 – The Brussels Cemetery Grotto

The Brussels Cemetery Grotto (HM 592) is located about a mile north of Brussels in Door County. (Brussels is about 2 miles east of Namur.)

The Grotto is part of a well-kept cemetery adjacent to St. Francis and St. Mary Parish. (A groundskeeper was mowing the lawn during our visit.) The church was originally just St. Francis Xavier.

If I were “up” on my saints, I could probably tell you who is represented by each of the figures attached to the Grotto. (There are more than pictured here.) The only person I know for sure here is Jesus.

There is apparently running water within the Grotto, but it wasn’t flowing during our visit.
